Aronow Summer House, Cape Cod
On John's Pond
Mashpee MA 02649

This is a summer-use, rustic house of unusual design, which sleeps up to ten people. The layout consists of 4 small bedrooms separated from the main house by a breezeway. Two of these bedrooms have double beds, and two have bunk beds. Across the breezeway is the main house which has a kitchen and large livingroom, with a loft over part of the livingroom, which has another double bed. The shower and bathroom, which are separated, are located off the livingroom and a porch hallway. The house sits on a 1-acre wooded lot, overlooking John's Pond. John's Pond is fresh water, quite clean, and fairly large, approximately 0.5 miles wide by 1.5 miles long.

Here's a list of some of the activities that you will find while you are staying at the house:

- Swimming: In John's Pond, either at the house's small private beach, or the larger Briarwood Beach a short walk down the road, or at a Mashpee town beach a little further down the road. There are many ocean beaches as well, a 15-20 minute drive, or 1-2 hour bike ride in any direction.
- Boating: A canoe and a row boat are provided at the house, along with a large supply of life jackets. You can also bring your own boat, as a public boat landing to John's Pond is located near the house.
- Fishing: There is plenty of fishing available in the pond, either off the small dock at the private beach, or from one of the boats. There may or may not be a couple of fishing rods available. If you are an avid angler, you might want to bring your own gear.
- Hiking: In addition to walking around the Briarwood neighborhood, there is the Mass. Audubon Society's Ashumet Holly Reservation, a beautiful conservation area with woods, gardens and a small pond. This is a 20-25 minute walk down Hooppole and Ashumet Roads.
- Tennis: There is a tennis court a short walk down the road.
- Biking: There are plenty of great places to bike, either just around the neighborhood of the house, or to any of the surrounding towns and ocean beaches, or some of the several bike paths that have been created, including the Cape Cod Rail Trail.
- Sightseeing: There a number of great places to check out all around the Cape. Just to name a few: Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard by ferry from Falmouth, the Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, Deep Sea fishing with an outfit such as Patriot Boats in Falmouth, Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, horseback riding at one of the local horse farms such as Boxberry Hill Farm in East Falmouth (508) 564-6648, the community Coonamessett Farm in Hatchville, and much more.
- Just Hanging Out: Plenty of room to sit and read, or just relax, either indoors, on the large porch overlooking the lake, or down at the beach. There is a CD-player and radio, various arts and crafts supplies, a collection of board games and kid's toys, and of course a BBQ grill on site.
- Odds and Ends: Some of these may or may not be available, so please ask: A family shellfishing license for clamming in Waquoit Bay, a Town of Mashpee Beach Sticker, a family membership to the Coonmessett Farm, and even a real electric piano!
